a hole - a mistake?

One of the pillars has a hole on its bottom part.

According to a legend, if you can go through the hole, you can go to the paradise.

We don’t know exactly why it has a hole.

One says, a carpenter made a mistake so that he used the material up side down.

Another one says we needed to make a hole on it because the corner was facing  the bad direction.  The hole makes it better because though the hole, bad things would go out.
